Aviv’s Best of Charleston List
Best Charleston Restaurants
Charleston isn’t short on great eats! From food trucks to five star affairs, Charleston has it all (and it’s all delicious!). Our personal favorite is FIG, which has an exquisite selection of fresh seafood dishes. FIG was voted Best Restaurant by Charleston City Paper readers in the 2014, 2013, 2011, and 2010 competitions. See the Charleston City Paper’s entire list of Best Eats.
Best Historic Hot Spots
The streets of Charleston are alive with history—stop by Boon Hall Plantation to experience 300 years of Southern Heritage, or go back in time as you stroll through the streets of downtown Charleston. Our favorite historical destination is Fort Sumter National Monument, which is where the first shots of the Civil War were fired.
Best Beaches
Situated on the Atlantic Ocean, Charleston area beaches are guaranteed to please. We always enjoy a day (or a couple days, for that matter) on Folly Beach. The white sandy shore and beautiful views are just the beginning. Enjoy breakfast on Center Street, and spend the afternoon fishing from the pier.
Best Charleston Road Races
The Charleston area is a fantastic destination for runners of all distances—5k, 10k, and full Marathon events are abundant year around. Check out this full list of running events courtesy of Charleston Running Club. Our favorite race is the Charleston Marathon because of its scenic water views and route through the Battery and historic King Street. Plus, at the end of the course, finishers enjoy a Shrimp, Grits, and Beer feast. Yum!
Best Bike Trails
Charleston was voted one of America’s Top 50 Bike-Friendly cities by Bicycling.com. It’s no wonder why—we’re blessed with a relatively flat terrain, cool weather, and countless beautiful destinations. One of our favorite routes take you across the Aurthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. From the top of the bridge, you’ll want to stop to enjoy the best view of the city available.
No matter what you decide to do in Charleston, there’s no shortage on great destinations!
