5 Daylight Saving Chores for 2016

Are you wondering, “When is daylight savings time in 2016?”

Charleston Daylight Savings Time 2016 begins at 2AM on Sunday, March 13th, so be ready to set your clocks an hour ahead. We’re springing forward with more sunshine, longer days, and new beginnings, so why not take advantage and use daylight saving as a reminder to do some basic maintenance on your appliances?

Charleston Daylight Savings Time 2016

The maintenance for the following appliances should be completed once every 6 months. That makes Daylight Savings the perfect time to get them done, plus it’s easy to remember.

1. Change Your Refrigerator’s Water Filter

This should take you no more than 6 minutes. Most refrigerators follow the same steps: remove your old filter, discard it, and attach the new one. The last step varies from refrigerator to refrigerator, so check your brand’s manual or contact Aviv Service Today.

2. Clean Your Dryer Vent

To clean your dyer vent, simply remove the outside cover and use a lint brush with an extendable handle to clean the inside of the pipe. The build-up of lint can cause your dryer to dry less efficiently and (even worse) can lead to very dangerous house fires.

The good news is that you can pick up  a Dryer Vent Cleaning Kit online for only about $25!

3. Clean Your Refrigerator Coils

If you have never done this, now is the time to start. Cleaning your refrigerator’s coils can prevent serious refrigerator problems, which will save you money and inconvenience. First, shut off the circuit breaker and water supply (this is very important for your safety). Then, locate your refrigerator’s coils and vacuum any dirt and dust you see. Next, vacuum the fan. For more detailed instructions, see here.

4. Freshen Up the Garbage Disposal

This is a super easy chore that only requires ice cubes, baking soda, and lemon or orange peels. Drop the ice cubes down the disposal while it’s running to clean the blades. If the smell is still an issue, use baking soda or a garbage disposal cleaning tablet down the drain. You’re done!

5. Change Your Smoke Detector’s Batteries

It’s a good idea to change your smoke detector batteries at least once per year to keep your family safe. This is one of the simplest (but most important) chore you do for your family on Daylight Savings this year.

Amazon Prime users can get an 8 pack of smoke detector batteries for $9.99 (free shipping!!). Add it to your cart now so you don’t forget!
